"Somebody to Love" is a song written by Freddie Mercury and performed by English rock band Queen featured on the 1976 album A Day at the Races.
Like "Bohemian Rhapsody", the major hit from Queen's previous album, "Somebody to Love" has a complex melody and deep layering of vocal tracks, this time based on a gospel choir arrangement. It was the first single off the album A Day at the Races. It is a rock ballad on which band members Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor multitracked their voices to create the impression of a 100-voice gospel choir. The lyrics, especially combined with the gospel influence, create a song about faith, desperation and soul-searching; the singer questions both the lack of love experienced in his life and the role and existence of God. Staying true to Queen's guitar-driven style, it was also filled with intricate harmonies and a notable guitar solo by Brian May, and it went to number 2 on the UK charts and number 13 on the U.S. singles chart.
At the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert held at Wembley Stadium, the song was performed by George Michael, and this was later rereleased in 1993 as the lead track of an EP called Five Live which went to #1 in the UK. This version is also available on Greatest Hits III, released in 1999.
During American Idol season 5, Brian May, while working with Elliott Yamin, said this song was written with Aretha Franklin in mind.
In 1977 there was an Italian version, "Un uomo per me" ("A man for me"), performed by Mia Martini with the chorus "I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni". It's included on Martini's album Per amarti ("To love you").
Five Live, released in 1993, features five (in some countries, where it is considered to be a reduced-length long-playing album, six) tracks, performed by George Michael, Queen, and Lisa Stansfield. Somebody to Love and These Are the Days of Our Lives (both also availbale on video) were recorded at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, held on 20.04.1992, at Wembley Stadium. In particular, the live performance of the opener gave Michael a lot more credibility as an adult artist, making him one of the few acts of the evening to be praised for fitting Freddie's hard, controversial shoes.
All proceeds from the sale of the EP benefited the Mercury Phoenix Trust. Sales of the record were in fact very strong throughout Europe, where it debuted at Number One, in the UK Singles Chart, and several European countries, either considered as a single, an extended play, or an LP. Chart success in the U.S. was far less spectacular, but the EP still peaked at Number 30 on the Billboard 200.
An edited shorter version of Killer and Papa Was a Rollin' Stone, a live medley already (performed by George at the Wembley Arena, as Calling You was, from the "Bagdad Café" soundtrack, also previously, but less successfully covered, by Paul Young), was released by George Michael as a further independent single, in some territories only. The singer also shot a video for it, where he did not appear personally though (it was during the time when the artist refused to exploit his outward look, which he though would distract the audience from the music, his main concern).
While These Are the Days of Our Lives, played by Queen, is actually a duet between George Michael and Lisa Stansfield's extremely soulful voices, the sixth optional track is represented by a short performance by Queen, entitled Dear Friends, originally sung by Freddie Mercury himself. Recorded in 1974, this constitutes the one studio recording on the record.
Usually, countries where the six-track work is distributed consider it to be as a short LP, whereas those where the five-track (hence, its title) work is available generally tend to see it as an EP or even (if Killer/Papa Was a Rollin' Stone was not marketed independently in those same territories) as a particularly long or content-rich single. However, no matter its status, whether an EP, a short album or a long single, the work as a whole sold an estimated 5 million copies worldwide

"After All" is a ballad performed as a duet by American singer and actress Cher and American singer Peter Cetera, released in 1989. It was used as the love theme for the movie Chances Are and was also the first US single release from Cher's 28th album Heart of Stone.
The single peaked at number six in the United States and Canada, the only two countries where the song was officially released. However, it did manage to enter some European charts due to airplay, including Ireland, where it peaked at 24, and the United Kingdom, where it made it made to 84.
"After All" also became Cher's first number one hit on the Adult Contemporary chart in the United States. Although the song found strong success in the United States, no video was ever made.
Side Note: Cher and Peter never recorded in the same studio. Each track was recorded separately then mixed together.
There is no footage of Cher and Cetera ever performing this song live together.
Cher did perform a solo version of the song during her Heart Of Stone and Love Hurts tours. She then performed it with her keyboardist/musical director, Paul Mirkovich, for her Believe and Farewell tours. These particular performances would accompany a video montage of Cher in film, which would start before the song begins.
Heart of Stone was released on June 19, 1989 and was the second for Geffen Records. Like on her previous album, Cher, Peter Asher, Jon Bon Jovi, Diane Warren, Guy Roche and Desmond Child performed songwriting and/or producing duties, Bonnie Tyler did backing vocals with Michael Bolton in Emotional Fire.
The album was recorded in late 1988/early 1989, during the third year of Cher's relationship to Rob Camilletti. She dedicated the album to him. The record is still regarded by many fans as one of her best.
The album was originally released with cover artwork featuring Cher sitting in front of a heart made of stone, creating the illusion of a skull (see picture below). The artwork was changed shortly after its release, making copies with the original artwork collector's items.
Heart of Stone became her biggest selling album at that time peaked at #7 in UK and #10 in U.S. having sold over 11 million copies worldwide.
Cher recorded two other songs for the album "Don't Come Cryin' to Me" and "Some Guys" but neither made the final cut. A remixed version of "Don't Come Cryin' to Me" was included on the Geffen compilation album If I Could Turn Back Time: Cher's Greatest Hits. The reissue of the album, however, does not include the song. A demo version of "Some Guys" was included on the "If I Could Turn Back Time" 7 and 12 inch single.
"Heart of Stone" and "If I Could Turn Back Time" were both slightly remixed and included those versions on the single. The "Heart of Stone" remix is available on CD on the compilation If I Could Turn Back Time: Cher's Greatest Hits issued by Geffen Records.
Chances Are is a 1989 romantic comedy film written by Perry & Randy Howze and directed by Emile Ardolino. Starring Cybill Shepherd, Robert Downey, Jr., Ryan O'Neal, and Mary Stuart Masterson. The original music score was composed by Maurice Jarre. The film's tagline is: "Alex has a lifetime full of wonderful memories. Unfortunately, they're not his."

He has more than 50 Top 40 hits including seven consecutive #1 U.S. albums, 59 Top 40 singles, 16 Top 10, 4 #2 hits, and nine #1 hits.[4] He has won five Grammy awards and one Academy Award. His success has had a profound impact on popular music and has contributed to the continued popularity of the piano in rock and roll. Reg Strikes Back is the twenty-first studio album by British singer/songwriter Elton John, released in 1988. It was his self-proclaimed comeback album, and his own way of fighting back against bad press. The "Reg" in Reg Strikes Back refers to Elton John's birth name, Reginald Kenneth Dwight. This is the last album that bassist Dee Murray would appear on. He died in 1992. Michael Damian is an American actor, singer and producer, known mainly for his eighteen-year run on the #1-rated daytime drama, The Young and the Restless.
Born in San Diego, California, Damian made his feature film debut as an actor in the Garry Marshall-directed comedy Young Doctors in Love. Later followed a recurring role for two seasons on NBC's The Facts of Life. He is married to Janeen Best, a former Solid Gold dancer and the daughter of the actor James Best (The Dukes of Hazzard).
After leaving "The Young and the Restless," Damian landed the starring role in the Broadway production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The production became the highest grossing revival in Los Angeles history, before hitting Broadway, where it continued to break box office records as well as earning Damian a Grammy nomination.
In addition to his Broadway career, Damian has released 5 albums and has had 8 top 40 hits including his #1 single "Rock On", which earned him his first gold record. He also won a BMI Song-writing Award for his hit single, "Was It Nothing At All".

"Rock On" is a song that was composed and sung by English singer/songwriter David Essex. In March of 1974, it was a Top 5 song (reaching the #5 position) on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop-music chart. It was Essex's only Billboard Top 40 hit. The song also reached the #3 spot on the UK Singles Chart. "Rock On", which also appeared on the eponymous album by Essex in 1973 (see 1973 in music), also appeared in the movie That'll Be the Day, a 1973 release in which Essex had a starring role. The song can still frequently be heard on oldies radio stations.
Essex's song is also the opening song for the 2000-release movie Sunset Strip.
The song features a slow-tempo, soulful vocal delivery sung in a minor key, along with a minimalist, heavily-bass-driven instrumental accompaniment to Essex's vocals. The lyrics pay homage to early rock and roll and its surrounding youth subculture, and notably mentions to 1950s iconic rebel James Dean. The vocals are punctuated with distortion and echo effects to add to the soulful, hip, "power delivery" of Essex's lyrics. Still further adding to the song's emotion-laden, slightly-haunting feel is a heartbeat-sounding percussive hook at the beginning of the song, an atonal string glide in the middle of the song, a very brief duet with a very-soulful-sounding, deep-voiced backup singer towards the end of the song, and muffled-sounding, staccato percussive riffs interspersed throughout the song.
"Rock On" was covered by soap opera star and singer Michael Damian in 1989 (see 1989 in music) and featured in the teen film, Dream a Little Dream. Damian's version reached the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, thus outperforming Essex's original version.
The English hard-rock band Def Leppard covered the song on their 2006 album, Yeah!, which features cover versions of 1970s rock hits. It was released as the second single from the album.

Patty Pravo is the stage name of Italian pop singer Nicoletta Strambelli, born in Venice on 9 April 1948.

Irrepressible and adventurous, at age 15 she left home to live in London and then Rome.
In Rome she began her career singing in the night club called Piper Club. In 1966 she made her first single, "Ragazzo Triste" (Sad Boy), the highly successful Italian version of the song "But You're Mine" by Sonny Bono.

The Manhattan Transfer is the name of two incarnations of an American vocal group, with Tim Hauser being the only link between the two groups. The group's name comes from John Dos Passos' 1925 novel Manhattan Transfer and reflects their New York origins.
The first group, established in New York City in 1969, disbanded after producing a single album, Jukin' (1971). The second line-up (on which this article focuses) was set up in 1972 and is still together as of 2007. It is famous for mixing jazz, big band, and popular music styles.

Though now obscure, it had some measure of popularity in the 1930s and 40s, marked by a number of high-profile performances. Artists to cover the song included Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey among others. Manhattan Transfer covered it again in 1972. The song features a haunting, lazy hook in a minor key, with numerous diminished chords. The overall impression is both languid and wistful.
Pastiche was released by The Manhattan Transfer on January 19, 1978, It was re-issued on the Rhino on November 15, 1994. This was the last studio album recorded with Laurel Massé, who left the group later that year.

Ketty Lester (born Revoyda Frierson, 16 August 1934, Hope, Arkansas) is an American singer and television actress, who is probably best known for her 1962 hit single, "Love Letters", which reached the Top 5 of the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Lester began her singing career after studying music at San Francisco State College and performed in the city's Purple Onion club in the early 1950s. Later she would join Cab Calloway's orchestra on a European tour. After a brief stint in an off-Broadway production entitled Cabin in the Sky, she was signed to Era Records which released "Love Letters". The song would become a big seller in both the United Kingdom and the United States, and reach Number #2 on the Billboard R&B chart.
Also in 1962, Lester would collaborate with American R&B singer Betty Everett, and the duo released the album, Betty Everett & Ketty Lester.
Lester would later establish herself as a television actress in the 1970s and 1980s. She played the roles of 'Helen Grant' in the soap opera, Days of Our Lives from 1975 to 1977, and 'Hester-Sue Terhune' on the NBC television series Little House on the Prairie from 1978 to 1983.

The song has been performed many times, but the best-known versions were made by Dick Haymes (in 1945), by Ketty Lester (in 1962), by Elvis Presley (in 1966) and by Alison Moyet (1987). Billy Fury (born Ronald William Wycherley, 17 April 1940 - 28 January 1983), was an internationally successful British pop singer from the late 1950s to the early 1960s, and remained an active songwriter until the 1980s. Rheumatic fever, which damaged his heart, contributed to his death.
Born at Smithdown Hospital (now Sefton General Hospital), Smithdown Road, Liverpool, Ronnie Wycherley first attended a gig in Liverpool run by impresario Larry Parnes, in the hope of interesting established artiste Marty Wilde in some of the songs he had written. Instead, in an episode that has become pop music legend, Parnes pushed young Wycherley up on stage right away. He was such an immediate success that Parnes signed him, added him to the tour, and renamed him "Billy Fury".
He released his first hit for Decca, "Maybe Tomorrow", in 1959. By March 1960, he hit UK Number 9 with his own composition "Collette", followed by "That's Love" and his first album The Sound Of Fury (1960), which featured a young Joe Brown on lead guitar, with backup vocals by The Four Jays.
After further hits and sacking his band The Blue Flames—which included keyboardist Georgie Fame—auditions were held for a new group and held by Parnes in Liverpool. Among those who failed were the pre-fame Beatles, who for the first time called themselves The Silver Beetles. They were offered the job for £20 a week on condition that they sacked bass guitar player Stuart Sutcliffe. John Lennon refused and the band left after Lennon had secured Fury's autograph. The Beatles were salvaged, however, by being sent on a tour of Scotland with Johnny Gentle and Duffy Power, who were a couple more of Parnes' acts.
Fury concentrated less on Rock 'n' Roll and more on mainstream ballads, such as "Halfway to Paradise" and "Jealousy" (both 1961, each of which reached number 2 in the British Singles Chart). This was Decca's decision to mould Fury into a teen idol after his last self-penned song, "My Christmas Prayer", had failed to chart. The years 1962 and 1963 were Billy Fury's best years chartwise. However, he was not a typical teen idol; there was too much sexuality in his performances and his renditions were never lightweight in the mould of some singers like Craig Douglas or Jimmy Justice. Fury's fans and contemporaries in music knew he was a rocker and the real thing musically.
In 1962 Fury appeared in his first film Play It Cool, modelled on the Elvis movies. It featured Helen Shapiro, Danny Rivers, Shane Fenton (aka Alvin Stardust) and Bobby Vee who appeared with the Vernons Girls. The hit single from the film was "Once Upon a Dream". In the film Fury did not get the girl but stayed with his friends. There are notable performances by many well-known British actors and performers such as Richard Wattis, Lionel Blair and Dennis Price. The music highlight of the film is Fury's singing of the title track.
Billy Fury was known for excellent albums. His We Want Billy (released 1963, with The Tornados) was one of the first live albums in British rock history and featured renditions of his major hits and covers of several classic R&B songs such as "Unchain My Heart" by Ray Charles. "Turn Your Lamp Down Low" (recorded in 1965 with backing band The Gamblers) was one of the earliest examples of a British act recording a track in the reggae style (with the emphasis on the second and fourth beats of each bar).
In 1965 he appeared in the film I've Gotta Horse, which featured the band The Bachelors. The movie was not a success but it seemed more real, and there are many interesting references to the British seaside towns of the 1960s. A few of the minor roles are notable for appearances by Michael Medwin and Jon Pertwee of Doctor Who fame. The album from the film is available in stereo.
Having had more UK hits, such as "It's Only Make Believe" and "I Will" (written by Dick Glasser, not to be confused with the Paul McCartney song), both in 1964, and "In Thoughts of You" in 1965, Fury began a lengthy absence from the charts in 1967, and underwent surgery for heart problems caused by rheumatic fever which led to his abandoning touring. Despite spending many weeks on the charts, Billy Fury never achieved a number one single, but he remained popular even after his hits stopped. Fury's song "I Will" would become a US hit for Dean Martin in 1965 and would later be a US hit for Ruby Winters in 1977.
In 1973, Fury came out of retirement to play rock 'n' roller "Stormy Tempest" in the film That'll Be The Day. The film, starring David Essex and Ringo Starr, was roughly based on the early days of The Beatles. Ringo Starr was from the same Dingle area of Liverpool as Fury, and had originally played drums for Rory Storm & The Hurricanes, who the Stormy Tempest group were said to be modelled on.
In 1981 and 1982, Fury was signed to Polydor Records by A&R man Frank Neilson and recorded a comeback album, The One And Only (released posthumously) with Shakin' Stevens' producer Stuart Colman and several singles. Because of his health, Fury did little touring to promote the new album. His last public appearance was at the Sunnyside, Northampton, in December 1982. He recorded a live performance for the television show Unforgettable featuring six of his old hits. At the request of his mother, only four were transmitted, however, as the two others had such great emotional attachment for her.
Fury lived with Lee Middleton from 1959 to 1967, married Judith Hall in May 1969 and lived with the property heiress Lisa Rosen from 1971 until his death on 28 January 1983 at Paddington, West London.
The song "A Wondrous Place" which was a great favourite of Fury's (so much so that he recorded it at least four times during his career) later received much airplay on British television when it was used as the theme for a Toyota Yaris car advertisement in 1999 and 2000.
Billy Fury was a keen amateur birdwatcher.
He is buried at the Paddington District Cemetery, Milespit Hill, Mill Hill, London NW7, and his grave is always well maintained, with fresh flowers and messages from fans.

Osnovani prvotno kao The Emeralds (smaragdi), vokalna skupina u Little Rocku (Arkansas), a činili su je četvero braće obitelji Tilmon (Ivory, r 14.09.1941, Abrim (Abe Tilmon, r 12.01.1945 – 06.07.1982), koji je bio autor svih hitova, Cleophus i Raymond. Nakon što su ih Cleophus i Raymond napustili, pridružio im se prijetelj iz djetinstva James Mitchell, preselili su se u Detroit i postali trio Detroit Emeralds, koji su prvi upsjeh na top ljestvica ostvarili 1968. s hitom «Show Time».
U Detroitu su radili s poznatim glazbenikom Williem Mitchellom (produkcija i prateći vokali), što je urodilo R&B Top10 hitovima: "If I Lose Your Love", "Do Me Right", "You Want It, You Got It", "Baby Let Me Take You (In My Arms)". Danas ih je možda najviše pamti po hitu "Feel The Need In Me" (US#22-1973). Razišli su se 1974. Abe Tilmon je osnovao novi bend istog imena Detroit Emeralds, a James Mitchell je osnovao kasnije poznatu skupinu The Floaters.
Abe Tilmon je umro u svom domu, 06.07.1982. u 38. godini od srčanog udara u Southfieldu, Michigan.

Dick and Dee Dee were well-known American musical entertainers. Dick St. John (r Richard St. John Gosting, 1940 – umro 27.12.2003), was the male half of the duo, and Dee Dee Sperling (real name Mary) was the female half. First working together in school, the duo were not romantically linked.
They teamed up in the 1950s, but their first major hit was the rock and roll song "The Mountain's High" (1961). It reached the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent two weeks in runner-up position, held out of number one by Bobby Vee's "Take Good Care of My Baby."
Their recordings were created with four voice tracks. Each of them sang two separate harmony lines. Dick sang the highest and lowest parts including the falsetto, and Dee Dee sang in the middle notes. It was a unique and popular sound.
The duo recorded three Rolling Stones tracks in 1964 including "Blue Turns to Grey" and Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind" penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In an interview with the BBC, recorded in 2006, Dee Dee Sperling revealed that their singing was overdubbed onto backing tracks recorded by the Stones, with Mick Jagger's vocals removed.
Their other hits included "Turn Around", "Tell Me", "Thou Shalt Not Steal" (their second-biggest hit, reaching #13 in 1965), and "Young and in Love".
By 1969, both singers had married other people and the duo disbanded.
Dick St. John died in 2003 after falling from the roof of his home.[2] In 2006, Dee Dee Sperling published a book about her experiences as half of Dick and Dee Dee, entitled Vinyl Highway.

Osnovani prvotno kao The Emeralds (smaragdi), vokalna skupina u Little Rocku (Arkansas), a činili su je četvero braće obitelji Tilmon (Ivory, r 14.09.1941, Abrim (Abe Tilmon, r 12.01.1945 – 06.07.1982), koji je bio autor svih hitova, Cleophus i Raymond. Nakon što su ih Cleophus i Raymond napustili, pridružio im se prijetelj iz djetinstva James Mitchell, preselili su se u Detroit i postali trio Detroit Emeralds, koji su prvi upsjeh na top ljestvica ostvarili 1968. s hitom «Show Time».
U Detroitu su radili s poznatim glazbenikom Williem Mitchellom (produkcija i prateći vokali), što je urodilo R&B Top10 hitovima: "If I Lose Your Love", "Do Me Right", "You Want It, You Got It", "Baby Let Me Take You (In My Arms)". Danas ih je možda najviše pamti po hitu "Feel The Need In Me" (US#22-1973). Razišli su se 1974. Abe Tilmon je osnovao novi bend istog imena Detroit Emeralds, a James Mitchell je osnovao kasnije poznatu skupinu The Floaters.
Abe Tilmon je umro u svom domu, 06.07.1982. u 38. godini od srčanog udara u Southfieldu, Michigan.

Autori su Don Raye i Hughie Prince, a snimljena je prvi puta u Deccinom hollywoodskom studiju 02.01.1941., dakle prije ulaska SAD-a u rat. Andrews Sisters su je predstavile u filmu Arthura Lubina «Buck Privates», 1941. Nominirana je za Oscara za najbolju pjesmu te godine.

Dick and Dee Dee were well-known American musical entertainers. Dick St. John (r Richard St. John Gosting, 1940 – umro 27.12.2003), was the male half of the duo, and Dee Dee Sperling (real name Mary) was the female half. First working together in school, the duo were not romantically linked.
They teamed up in the 1950s, but their first major hit was the rock and roll song "The Mountain's High" (1961). It reached the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent two weeks in runner-up position, held out of number one by Bobby Vee's "Take Good Care of My Baby."
Their recordings were created with four voice tracks. Each of them sang two separate harmony lines. Dick sang the highest and lowest parts including the falsetto, and Dee Dee sang in the middle notes. It was a unique and popular sound.
The duo recorded three Rolling Stones tracks in 1964 including "Blue Turns to Grey" and Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind" penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In an interview with the BBC, recorded in 2006, Dee Dee Sperling revealed that their singing was overdubbed onto backing tracks recorded by the Stones, with Mick Jagger's vocals removed.
Their other hits included "Turn Around", "Tell Me", "Thou Shalt Not Steal" (their second-biggest hit, reaching #13 in 1965), and "Young and in Love".
By 1969, both singers had married other people and the duo disbanded.
Dick St. John died in 2003 after falling from the roof of his home.[2] In 2006, Dee Dee Sperling published a book about her experiences as half of Dick and Dee Dee, entitled Vinyl Highway.

The Greg Kihn Band is an American band that was started by frontman Greg Kihn and bassist Steve Wright (not the stand-up comedian with the same name). Their hits include "The Break-up Song" (Billboard Hot 100 #15) and "Jeopardy" (#2). In 2005 Greg's son Ry joined the band.
The band's starting lineup also included Robbie Dunbar on lead guitar and Larry Lynch on drums. Greg & Steve have been the only two permanent members since the band started in the 1970s. The band still performs about twice yearly at Kihn's "Kihncerts" & at the Free Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk concert stage.
The band's most recent high-profile activity was "Hit Me, Baby, One More Time." Although the band lost the competition, they raised awareness, and subsequently money, for Operation Care and Comfort. They also added their cover of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" to their regular set.
Greg Kihn (r 10.07.1949 in Baltimore, Maryland) is a U.S. pop musician & radio personality.
Kihn has also written four novels, Horrow Show, Shade of Pale, Mojo Hand, and Big Rock Beat, and released a collection of short stories by himself and other well known rock musicians, named Carved In Rock: Short Stories By Musicians. Contributors include Ray Manzarek of The Doors, Pete Townshend of The Who, Joan Jett, and Ray Davies of The Kinks.
Greg Kihn in 2007 was inducted into the San Jose Hall of Fame.

Heavily influenced by 1950s doo-wop, "Drive-In Saturday" describes how the inhabitants of a post-apocalyptic world have forgotten how to reproduce, and need to watch old porn films to see how it's done.[1] The narrative has been cited as an example of Bowie's "futuristic nostalgia",[2] where the story is told from the perspective of an inhabitant of the future looking back in time.
Its composition was inspired by strange lights amidst the barren landscape between Seattle, Washington, and Phoenix, Arizona, as seen from a train at night on Bowie's 1972 US tour.[1] The music featured Bowie's synthesizer and saxophone, while the lyrics name-checked Mick Jagger ("When people stared in Jagger's eyes and scored"), the model Twiggy ("She'd sigh like Twig the wonder kid"), and Carl Jung ("Jung the foreman prayed at work").
Aladdin Sane is a 1973 album by David Bowie. The follow-up to his breakthrough The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, it was the first album Bowie wrote and released as a bona fide pop star. While many critics agree that it contains some of his best material, opinion as to its overall quality has often been divided. The Detroit Emeralds were an American R&B vocal group, best known in the early 1970s.
The Emeralds formed as a vocal harmony group in Little Rock, Arkansas, and originally comprised four brothers, Ivory (born 14 September 1941), Abrim (born Abe Tilmon, 12 January 1945 - 6 July 1982), Cleophus and Raymond Tilmon. After Cleophus and Raymond left, the remaining Tilmon brothers were joined by childhood friend, James Mitchell. Moving to Detroit, Michigan and expanding their name to the Detroit Emeralds, the then trio had their first R&B chart success on Ric-Tic Records, with "Show Time" in 1968.
In 1970, they joined the Westbound record label. When touring in Memphis, Tennessee, they recorded some demo tracks at the Hi recording studios, run by producer Willie Mitchell, to which they then added vocals and strings back in Detroit. This approach worked and brought them another hit, "If I Lose Your Love", which was followed by a run of successes, including "Do Me Right", "You Want It, You Got It" and "Baby Let Me Take You (In My Arms)" which all made the R&B top 10 chart while the latter also reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart in 1972.
The song for which they are now best remembered, "Feel The Need In Me", reached #22 R&B in 1973 and a new, much longer version four years later also charted. The original track made the top five in the UK Singles Chart in 1973 and the later production also made the UK chart in 1977 (#12). "You Want It" was re-released in the UK as a follow-up to the initial Feel The Need, also reaching the UK Top 20 in 1973. Abe Tilmon wrote all of their hits while also arranging and producing the tracks.
By 1974, the group was falling apart, and at one point there were two outfits using the name. Abe Tilmon formed one new group with the Detroit Emeralds' name, while James Mitchell formed another group, The Floaters. Both Emeralds groups stayed active on the oldies and cabaret circuit for some years.
On 6 July 1982 Abrim Tilmon died, at the age of 37, in his Southfield, Michigan home of a heart attack. It is said a re-union of the group was being planned at the time. He was survived by his wife Janyce, son Steve, and daughter Cathy.

She is currently performing a new concert show, The Showgirl Must Go On, live five nights a week as a headliner at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Midler was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is the daughter of Ruth (née Schindel), a seamstress and housewife, and Fred Midler, a house painter who worked at a Navy base in Hawaii. Her parents were from Paterson, New Jersey and moved to Honolulu shortly before Midler was born. Midler's family was one of the few Jewish families in a mostly Asian neighborhood.

"Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", a wartime radio song about a virtuoso trumpet player, was a major hit for the Andrews Sisters and an iconic World War II tune.
The song was written by Don Raye and Hughie Prince, and was recorded at Decca's Hollywood studios on January 2, 1941, nearly a year before the United States entered World War II but after the start of a peacetime draft to expand the armed forces in anticipation of American involvement. The flipside was "Bounce Me Brother With a Solid Four". The Andrews Sisters introduced the song in the 1941 Abbott and Costello film Buck Privates, which was in production when they made the record. "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song.
The song is closely based on an earlier Raye-Prince hit, "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar," which is about a virtuoso boogie-woogie piano player.
In an interview broadcast July 3, 2006 on CNN, World War II veteran Bill Arter said he often played in jam sessions with the black unit in Company C, who gave him the nickname Bugle Boy from Company B. Arter was a medic who landed during D-day. There is no evidence that he was the inspiration for the song, however, since it was written before the U.S. entered the war. He may have been dubbed the Bugle Boy from Company B in reference to the song, not the other way around.
In 1973, Bette Midler recorded her version of the song, a close copy of the original, which peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and introduced it to a new generation of pop music fans. The track was also a #1 single on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
Recently Christina Aguilera released a song called "Candyman" which used the same melody harmonies and background music as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" but she modernised the words.
The song is referenced in the animated short Disney musical film, A Symposium on Popular Songs in the song, "The Boogie Woogie Bakery Man" written by Robert & Richard Sherman.
Christina Aguilera wrote new lyrics to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" for her track "Candyman" (released as a single in 2007) from her hit album Back to Basics. The song was co-written by Linda Perry in addition to the original composers.
The Divine Miss M is the debut album by American female vocalist Bette Midler, released in 1972 on the Atlantic Records label. The title of the album refers to Midler's famous stage persona.

Val Doonican (Michael Valentine Doonican, r 03.02.1927, in Waterford, Irish Free State)[1] is an Irish singer and performer. From 1964 to 1986 he was a regular fixture on the BBC's television schedule with The Val Doonican Show, which featured his own singing performances and a variety of guest artists.
Doonican was the youngest of eight children and when a teenager, his father died; it was necessary for him to leave De La Salle College, Waterford and get jobs in factories fabricating steel and making orange boxes.
He was from a musical family and started performing in his home town and in a summer season at Courtown Harbour. He was then featured on Irish Radio and appeared in the first ever television broadcast from Waterford. He then joined a band which toured Ireland playing the drums. In 1951 he moved to England to join another group, The Four Ramblers, who toured and performed on BBC Radio shows broadcast from factories.
He eventually went solo and had a radio show as well as performing concerts and cabaret. In 1963 he was booked to appear on Sunday Night at the London Palladium. As a result of this performance, he was offered his own show on BBC television, lasting for over twenty years and moving to Saturday as its popularity grew. It featured his relaxed crooner style performance sitting in a rocking chair, as well as a number of comic Irish songs, notably "Paddy McGinty's Goat", "Delaney's Donkey", and "O'Rafferty's Motor Car", on which he accompanied himself on acoustic guitar. He often wore cardigans, which together with the rocking chairs he often sat in became his trade mark, and was sometimes compared to American singer Perry Como though Doonican has claimed his main influence was Bing Crosby. As a variety show, there were a number of other acts featured and performers such as Dave Allen had early exposure on the show.
The Palladium performance also kick-started his recording career. Between 1964 and 1973 he was rarely out of the UK Singles Chart, his greatest successes including the singles "Walk Tall", "The Special Years", "What Would I Be", "If The Whole World Stopped Loving", and "Morning"; and the albums 13 Lucky Shades of Val Doonican, and Val Doonican Rocks, But Gently. He also sang the theme song to the film Ring of Bright Water.
Doonican still performs but now enjoys spending a lot of free time in Spain, where he has a second home, and is a keen golfer.

"Blue Turns to Grey" is a song that was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song first appeared in February 1965 when both Dick and Dee Dee and The Mighty Avengers released versions of it. Another version was released shortly thereafter by Tracey Dey on Amy Records. It was released by The Rolling Stones on their 1965 album December's Children (And Everybody's) later that year.
It became a hit in the UK when remade by Cliff Richard and the Shadows in 1966 (b/w "Somebody Loses" (Tepper/Bennett), released 18 March 1966).
Don and the Goodtimes also recorded a version of this song, as did The Epics on Pye Records.
Dick and Dee Dee were well-known American musical entertainers. Dick St. John (born Richard St. John Gosting, 1940 - died December 27, 2003), was the male half of the duo, and Dee Dee Sperling (real name Mary) was the female half. First working together in school, the duo were not romantically linked.
They teamed up in the 1950s, but their first major hit was the rock and roll song "The Mountain's High" (1961). It reached the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent two weeks in runner-up position, held out of number one by Bobby Vee's "Take Good Care of My Baby."
Their recordings were created with four voice tracks. Each of them sang two separate harmony lines. Dick sang the highest and lowest parts including the falsetto, and Dee Dee sang in the middle notes. It was a unique and popular sound.
The duo recorded three Rolling Stones tracks in 1964 including "Blue Turns to Grey" and Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind" penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In an interview with the BBC, recorded in 2006, Dee Dee Sperling revealed that their singing was overdubbed onto backing tracks recorded by the Stones, with Mick Jagger's vocals removed.
Their other hits included "Turn Around", "Tell Me", "Thou Shalt Not Steal" (their second-biggest hit, reaching #13 in 1965), and "Young and in Love".
By 1969, both singers had married other people and the duo disbanded.
Dick St. John died in 2003 after falling from the roof of his home.[2] In 2006, Dee Dee Sperling published a book about her experiences as half of Dick and Dee Dee, entitled Vinyl Highway.

"Good Lovin' " is a song written by Rudy Clark and Arthur Resnick that was a number one hit single for The Young Rascals in 1966.
The song was first recorded in 1965 by R&B/novelty artists The Olympics, but was only a minor hit at best, reaching number 81 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. The tale is told that Rascal Felix Cavaliere heard it on a New York City radio station and the group added it to their concert repertoire. Co-producer Tom Dowd captured this live feel on the recording, even though the group did not think the performance held together well.
Divining a mixture of garage rock and white soul, the Rascal's "Good Lovin'" jumped out of radios with a "One - Two - Three -" count-in, high-energy instrumentation, and insistent call-and-response vocals from Cavaliere and the band:
These were followed by an organ break from Cavaliere, and a full stop false ending that was suddenly popular at the time (cf. "Paperback Writer" and "Monday, Monday") — all in two and a half minutes. "Good Lovin'" rose to the top of the Billboard Pop Singles chart in the spring of 1966 and represented The Young Rascal's first real hit.
"Good Lovin'" is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, and was ranked number 325 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. Writer Dave Marsh placed it at number 108 in his 1989 book The Heart of Rock and Soul: The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made, saying it is "the greatest example ever of a remake surpassing the quality of an original without changing a thing about the arrangement," and that "'Good Lovin'' all by itself is enough to dispel the idiotic notion that rock and roll is nothing more than white boys stealing from blacks."
The song has since been performed and recorded by a number of artists, including Bobby McFerrin, Herbie Mann and The Who. The Grateful Dead made it a workhorse of their concert rotation, sung in their early years by Ron "Pigpen" McKernan and then later sung by Bob Weir. The Weir rendition was recorded for the group's 1978 Shakedown Street album and came in for a good amount of criticism: Rolling Stone said it "feature[d] aimless ensemble work and vocals that Bob Weir should never have attempted"

The Greg Kihn Band is an American band that was started by frontman Greg Kihn and bassist Steve Wright (not the stand-up comedian with the same name). Their hits include "The Break-up Song" (Billboard Hot 100 #15) and "Jeopardy" (#2). In 2005 Greg's son Ry joined the band.
The band's starting lineup also included Robbie Dunbar on lead guitar and Larry Lynch on drums. Greg & Steve have been the only two permanent members since the band started in the 1970s. The band still performs about twice yearly at Kihn's "Kihncerts" & at the Free Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk concert stage.
The band's most recent high-profile activity was "Hit Me, Baby, One More Time." Although the band lost the competition, they raised awareness, and subsequently money, for Operation Care and Comfort. They also added their cover of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" to their regular set.
Greg Kihn (r 10.07.1949 in Baltimore, Maryland) is a U.S. pop musician & radio personality.
Kihn has also written four novels, Horrow Show, Shade of Pale, Mojo Hand, and Big Rock Beat, and released a collection of short stories by himself and other well known rock musicians, named Carved In Rock: Short Stories By Musicians. Contributors include Ray Manzarek of The Doors, Pete Townshend of The Who, Joan Jett, and Ray Davies of The Kinks.

Aladdin Sane is a 1973 album by David Bowie. The Detroit Emeralds were an American R&B vocal group, best known in the early 1970s.
The Emeralds formed as a vocal harmony group in Little Rock, Arkansas, and originally comprised four brothers, Ivory (born 14 September 1941), Abrim (born Abe Tilmon, 12 January 1945 - 6 July 1982), Cleophus and Raymond Tilmon. After Cleophus and Raymond left, the remaining Tilmon brothers were joined by childhood friend, James Mitchell. Moving to Detroit, Michigan and expanding their name to the Detroit Emeralds, the then trio had their first R&B chart success on Ric-Tic Records, with "Show Time" in 1968.
In 1970, they joined the Westbound record label. When touring in Memphis, Tennessee, they recorded some demo tracks at the Hi recording studios, run by producer Willie Mitchell, to which they then added vocals and strings back in Detroit. This approach worked and brought them another hit, "If I Lose Your Love", which was followed by a run of successes, including "Do Me Right", "You Want It, You Got It" and "Baby Let Me Take You (In My Arms)" which all made the R&B top 10 chart while the latter also reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart in 1972.
The song for which they are now best remembered, "Feel The Need In Me", reached #22 R&B in 1973 and a new, much longer version four years later also charted. The original track made the top five in the UK Singles Chart in 1973 and the later production also made the UK chart in 1977 (#12). "You Want It" was re-released in the UK as a follow-up to the initial Feel The Need, also reaching the UK Top 20 in 1973. Abe Tilmon wrote all of their hits while also arranging and producing the tracks.
By 1974, the group was falling apart, and at one point there were two outfits using the name. Abe Tilmon formed one new group with the Detroit Emeralds' name, while James Mitchell formed another group, The Floaters. Both Emeralds groups stayed active on the oldies and cabaret circuit for some years.
On 6 July 1982 Abrim Tilmon died, at the age of 37, in his Southfield, Michigan home of a heart attack. It is said a re-union of the group was being planned at the time. He was survived by his wife Janyce, son Steve, and daughter Cathy.

Midler was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is the daughter of Ruth (née Schindel), a seamstress and housewife, and Fred Midler, a house painter who worked at a Navy base in Hawaii. Her parents were from Paterson, New Jersey and moved to Honolulu shortly before Midler was born. Midler's family was one of the few Jewish families in a mostly Asian neighborhood.

"Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", a wartime radio song about a virtuoso trumpet player, was a major hit for the Andrews Sisters and an iconic World War II tune.
The song was written by Don Raye and Hughie Prince, and was recorded at Decca's Hollywood studios on January 2, 1941, nearly a year before the United States entered World War II but after the start of a peacetime draft to expand the armed forces in anticipation of American involvement. The flipside was "Bounce Me Brother With a Solid Four". The Andrews Sisters introduced the song in the 1941 Abbott and Costello film Buck Privates, which was in production when they made the record. "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song.
The song is closely based on an earlier Raye-Prince hit, "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar," which is about a virtuoso boogie-woogie piano player.
In an interview broadcast July 3, 2006 on CNN, World War II veteran Bill Arter said he often played in jam sessions with the black unit in Company C, who gave him the nickname Bugle Boy from Company B. Arter was a medic who landed during D-day. There is no evidence that he was the inspiration for the song, however, since it was written before the U.S. entered the war. He may have been dubbed the Bugle Boy from Company B in reference to the song, not the other way around.
In 1973, Bette Midler recorded her version of the song, a close copy of the original, which peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and introduced it to a new generation of pop music fans. The track was also a #1 single on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
Recently Christina Aguilera released a song called "Candyman" which used the same melody harmonies and background music as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" but she modernised the words.
The song is referenced in the animated short Disney musical film, A Symposium on Popular Songs in the song, "The Boogie Woogie Bakery Man" written by Robert & Richard Sherman.
Christina Aguilera wrote new lyrics to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" for her track "Candyman" (released as a single in 2007) from her hit album Back to Basics. The song was co-written by Linda Perry in addition to the original composers.
The Divine Miss M is the debut album by American female vocalist Bette Midler, released in 1972 on the Atlantic Records label. The title of the album refers to Midler's famous stage persona.

Val Doonican (Michael Valentine Doonican, r 03.02.1927, in Waterford, Irish Free State)[1] is an Irish singer and performer. From 1964 to 1986 he was a regular fixture on the BBC's television schedule with The Val Doonican Show, which featured his own singing performances and a variety of guest artists.
Doonican was the youngest of eight children and when a teenager, his father died; it was necessary for him to leave De La Salle College, Waterford and get jobs in factories fabricating steel and making orange boxes.
He was from a musical family and started performing in his home town and in a summer season at Courtown Harbour. He was then featured on Irish Radio and appeared in the first ever television broadcast from Waterford. He then joined a band which toured Ireland playing the drums. In 1951 he moved to England to join another group, The Four Ramblers, who toured and performed on BBC Radio shows broadcast from factories.
He eventually went solo and had a radio show as well as performing concerts and cabaret. In 1963 he was booked to appear on Sunday Night at the London Palladium. As a result of this performance, he was offered his own show on BBC television, lasting for over twenty years and moving to Saturday as its popularity grew. It featured his relaxed crooner style performance sitting in a rocking chair, as well as a number of comic Irish songs, notably "Paddy McGinty's Goat", "Delaney's Donkey", and "O'Rafferty's Motor Car", on which he accompanied himself on acoustic guitar. He often wore cardigans, which together with the rocking chairs he often sat in became his trade mark, and was sometimes compared to American singer Perry Como though Doonican has claimed his main influence was Bing Crosby. As a variety show, there were a number of other acts featured and performers such as Dave Allen had early exposure on the show.
The Palladium performance also kick-started his recording career. Between 1964 and 1973 he was rarely out of the UK Singles Chart, his greatest successes including the singles "Walk Tall", "The Special Years", "What Would I Be", "If The Whole World Stopped Loving", and "Morning"; and the albums 13 Lucky Shades of Val Doonican, and Val Doonican Rocks, But Gently. He also sang the theme song to the film Ring of Bright Water.
Doonican still performs but now enjoys spending a lot of free time in Spain, where he has a second home, and is a keen golfer.

"Blue Turns to Grey" is a song that was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song first appeared in February 1965 when both Dick and Dee Dee and The Mighty Avengers released versions of it. Another version was released shortly thereafter by Tracey Dey on Amy Records. It was released by The Rolling Stones on their 1965 album December's Children (And Everybody's) later that year.
It became a hit in the UK when remade by Cliff Richard and the Shadows in 1966 (b/w "Somebody Loses" (Tepper/Bennett), released 18 March 1966).

They teamed up in the 1950s, but their first major hit was the rock and roll song "The Mountain's High" (1961). It reached the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent two weeks in runner-up position, held out of number one by Bobby Vee's "Take Good Care of My Baby."
Their recordings were created with four voice tracks. Each of them sang two separate harmony lines. Dick sang the highest and lowest parts including the falsetto, and Dee Dee sang in the middle notes. It was a unique and popular sound.
The duo recorded three Rolling Stones tracks in 1964 including "Blue Turns to Grey" and Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind" penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In an interview with the BBC, recorded in 2006, Dee Dee Sperling revealed that their singing was overdubbed onto backing tracks recorded by the Stones, with Mick Jagger's vocals removed.
Their other hits included "Turn Around", "Tell Me", "Thou Shalt Not Steal" (their second-biggest hit, reaching #13 in 1965), and "Young and in Love".
By 1969, both singers had married other people and the duo disbanded.
Dick St. John died in 2003 after falling from the roof of his home.[2] In 2006, Dee Dee Sperling published a book about her experiences as half of Dick and Dee Dee, entitled Vinyl Highway.

"Good Lovin' " is a song written by Rudy Clark and Arthur Resnick that was a number one hit single for The Young Rascals in 1966.
The song was first recorded in 1965 by R&B/novelty artists The Olympics, but was only a minor hit at best, reaching number 81 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. The tale is told that Rascal Felix Cavaliere heard it on a New York City radio station and the group added it to their concert repertoire. Co-producer Tom Dowd captured this live feel on the recording, even though the group did not think the performance held together well.
Divining a mixture of garage rock and white soul, the Rascal's "Good Lovin'" jumped out of radios with a "One - Two - Three -" count-in, high-energy instrumentation, and insistent call-and-response vocals from Cavaliere and the band:
These were followed by an organ break from Cavaliere, and a full stop false ending that was suddenly popular at the time (cf. "Paperback Writer" and "Monday, Monday") — all in two and a half minutes. "Good Lovin'" rose to the top of the Billboard Pop Singles chart in the spring of 1966 and represented The Young Rascal's first real hit.
"Good Lovin'" is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, and was ranked number 325 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. Writer Dave Marsh placed it at number 108 in his 1989 book The Heart of Rock and Soul: The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made, saying it is "the greatest example ever of a remake surpassing the quality of an original without changing a thing about the arrangement," and that "'Good Lovin'' all by itself is enough to dispel the idiotic notion that rock and roll is nothing more than white boys stealing from blacks."
The song has since been performed and recorded by a number of artists, including Bobby McFerrin, Herbie Mann and The Who. The Grateful Dead made it a workhorse of their concert rotation, sung in their early years by Ron "Pigpen" McKernan and then later sung by Bob Weir. The Weir rendition was recorded for the group's 1978 Shakedown Street album and came in for a good amount of criticism: Rolling Stone said it "feature[d] aimless ensemble work and vocals that Bob Weir should never have attempted"

Hotter than July is an album by Stevie Wonder, originally released on Motown's Tamla label on September 29, 1980. Despite the wide critical acclaim for Wonder's previous works such as Songs in the Key of Life and Innervisions, Hotter than July was his first album eligible for platinum status, as Motown sales records before 1977 were not audited by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Inspired by the growing popularity of Bob Marley's music and its clear messages against war, "Master Blaster (Jammin)" was Wonder's way of honoring Marley. The ballad "Lately" and the upbeat "Happy Birthday" were other notable successes from the album. Wonder wrote "Happy Birthday" in order to honor Martin Luther King and used the song to campaign for King's birthday, January 15, to become a national holiday in the USA. The sleeve design contains images of Martin Luther King and some of his famous protests.
Track two, "All I Do", had originally been written by a teenaged Wonder and collaborators Clarence Paul and Morris Broadnax in 1966. Tammi Terrell recorded the original version of the song that year; her version remained in the Motown vaults until the release of the compilation A Cellarful of Motown! in the United Kingdom in 2002.

He has recorded a string of Billboard hit singles and multi-platinum albums that have resulted in his being named Radio & Records number one Adult Contemporary artist and winning the American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist for three consecutive years. Several well-known entertainers have given Manilow their "stamp of approval," including Sinatra, who was quoted in the 1970s regarding Manilow, "He's next." In 1988, Bob Dylan stopped Manilow at a party, hugged him and said, "Don't stop what you're doing, man. We're all inspired by you." The song title, "We Have All the Time in the World", is taken from James Bond's final words in both the novel and the film, spoken after his wife's death. On Her Majesty's Secret Service, released in 1969, is the sixth spy film in the James Bond series, and the only one to star George Lazenby as the fictional British secret agent James Bond, 007. Brant committed suicide at the height of his career by jumping from the window of a Paris apartment, leaving his fans shocked and devastated. His music is still aired in Israel today.
Mike Brant was born on February 1, 1947 in a Jewish refugee camp on Cyprus. His parents were Polish Jews, and his mother was a survivor of Auschwitz. He did not begin to speak until the age of five. On November 1947, the family immigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine and settled in Haifa, where they lived in a modest two-room apartment.
When he was 17, Brant joined his brother's band, "The Chocolates," as the lead singer. The band started out performing at parties and cafés in Haifa and Tel Aviv, and moved on to nightclubs in upscale hotels. Brant sang in English and in French, although he spoke only Hebrew. In 1965, he changed his name to "Mike" because it sounded more "international."
At one of these performances, he was discovered by the Israeli impresario Jonathan Karmon, who signed him on for a tour around the US and South Africa that lasted almost a year. By 1968, Brant's career had taken off. He appeared nightly before large crowds.
In May 1969, Brant performed at the nightclub of the Hilton Hotel in Teheran, "Baccara." A young French singer, Sylvie Vartan, who was also on the bill, was impressed by his talent and charisma, and urged him to come to Paris.
Brant arrived on July 9, 1969 in Paris with a hundred dollar bill in his pocket, determined to make an international name for himself. It took him ten days to find Vartan, but they eventually met, and she introduced him to the French producer Jean Renard, who had turned Johnny Halliday into a star. Under Renard's guidance, he changed the spelling of his family name from Brand to Brant, and recorded his biggest all-time hit, "Laisse-moi t'aimer" ("Let Me Love You"). The song was a huge success at the Midem music festival in January 1970, and was played on the radio all over France. "Laisse-moi t'aimer" sold 50,000 copies within the first two weeks.
A million and half copies of "Laisse-moi t'aimer" were snatched up over the next few months. Brant represented France in a radio contest broadcast all over Europe and also aired in Israel. His song in the contest, sponsored by Radio Luxembourg, was "Mais dans la lumiere" ("But Inside the Light"). Brant took first place. He continued to release new hits: "Qui saura" ("Who Knows"), "Un grand bonheur" ("Great Happiness") and "Parce que je t'aime plus que moi" ("Because I Love You More Than Myself). His wildly successful first album, "Disque d'Or" ("Gold Record") sold millions of copies. Brant took a song that was written and composed in English by his good friend Mike Tchaban/Tashban "Why do i love you? Why do i need you?" French radio would not air this song because it was in English. Brant in a sad way returned back home to give concerts and the rest of Europe. Brant's concerts attracted enormous crowds. Wherever he went, he was surrounded by adoring fans, especially girls and women, who screamed and fainted at his performances. His tours took him all over Europe.In February 1971, Brant was injured in a road accident. That year, at the peak of his success, he returned home to give several concerts in Israel. During the Yom Kippur War in 1973, he performed in Israel before front-line soldiers.
After switching managers, Brant found himself performing at an insane pace. By 1973, he was giving 250 concerts a year, some before audiences of 6,000-10,000 people. This went on for two years. He spent those years madly dodging female admirers. Despite all this adulation, Brant suffered from depression and loneliness. On November 22, 1974, he attempted suicide, jumping out the window of his manager's hotel room in Geneva. He suffered broken bones, but survived. He recovered and began to appear again, but cut down the number of performances and concentrated on putting out another album, Dis-lui ("Tell Her").
On April 25, 1975, on the day his new album was scheduled for release on live television, Brant leapt to his death from the balcony of an apartment in Paris. He was 28 years old.
Mike Brant was buried in Haifa, Israel, and his grave became a pilgrimage site for grieving fans.

Frank Ifield (born Francis Edward Ifield, 30 November 1937, Coundon, Coventry, Warwickshire, England) is an Australian-English easy listening and country music singer. He achieved considerable success in the early 1960s, especially in the UK Singles Chart, where he had four #1 hits between 1962 and 1963.
Frank Ifield moved with his Australian parents to Dural, 50 km (30 miles) from Sydney, about 1946. It was a rural district and he listened to hillbilly music (now called country) while milking the cows. He learned how to yodel in imitation of country stars like Hank Snow. At the age of thirteen he recorded "Did You See My Daddy Over There?", and by the age of 19 was the number one recording star in Australia and New Zealand. He returned to the UK in 1959.
His first record in the UK was "Lucky Devil" (1960) which got to number 22 in the UK charts. His next six records were less successful, but he finally broke through with "I Remember You" which topped the charts for seven weeks in 1962. Known for Ifield's falsetto and a slight yodel, it became the top-selling single of that year and was one of the first million sellers within the UK alone.
His next single was a double A-side: "Lovesick Blues" and "She Taught Me How to Yodel". "Lovesick Blues" was originally sung by Hank Williams and was treated in an upbeat "Let's Twist Again" style. The other song is a virtuoso piece of yodelling with the final verse - entirely yodelling - sung at double-speed. It also reached number 44 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. His next hit, "Wayward Wind", made him the first UK-based person to reach number one three times in the UK in succession. The only other person to have done so at that point was Elvis Presley.

Orbison is best known for the songs, "Ooby Dooby," "Only the Lonely," "In Dreams," "Oh, Pretty Woman," "Crying," "Running Scared," and "You Got It". He is known for his smooth tenor voice, which could jump an unprecedented three octaves with little trouble. He was also never seen on stage without his trademark black sunglasses. In 1987, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 1989, he was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Roy Orbison's vocal range was impressive (four octaves[citation needed]), his voice effortlessly powerful, and his songs were melodically and rhythmically advanced and lyrically sophisticated, often incorporating the bolero form.

In one infamous scene, an effeminate drug dealer named Ben (played by Dean Stockwell) lip syncs the song at Booth's insistence. Morse was born in Mansfield, Texas. She was hired by Jimmy Dorsey when she was 14 years old. In 1942, at the age of 17, she joined Freddie Slack's band, with whom in the same year she recorded Cow Cow Boogie, Capitol Records' first gold single. She also originated the wartime hit Milkman, Keep Those Bottles Quiet, which was later popularized by Nancy Walker in the film Broadway Rhythm.

Crosby is also credited as being the major inspiration for most of the male singers of the era that followed him, including Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, and Dean Martin.[citation needed] Yank magazine recognized Crosby as the person who had done the most for American G.I. morale during World War II and, during his peak years, around 1948, polls declared him the "most admired man alive," ahead of Jackie Robinson and Pope Pius XII. Also during 1948, the Music Digest estimated that Crosby recordings filled more than half of the 80,000 weekly hours allocated to recorded radio music.[3] Clarinetist Artie Shaw described Crosby as "the first hip white person born in the United States."
Crosby exerted an important influence on the development of the postwar recording industry. In 1947, he invested US$50,000 in the Ampex company, which developed the world's first commercial reel-to-reel tape recorder, and Crosby became the first performer to pre-record his radio shows and master his commercial recordings on magnetic tape. He gave one of the first Ampex Model 200 recorders to his friend, musician Les Paul, which led directly to Paul's invention of multitrack recording. Along with Frank Sinatra, he was one of the principal backers behind the famous United Western Recorders studio complex in Los Angeles.
In 1962, Crosby was the first person to receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
